Artist Statement
In my paintings and photography the dance of life and death are explored, the fleeting nature of moments, the physical impermanence of everything in this universe and the underlying thread that connects everything and everyone on this planet. My work is about wholeness, and our connection to the natural world through its vibrations, rhythms and pulsating energies. Reverence and awe at the importance of each thread in the fluid, dynamic, multidimensionality, interdependent landscape of life on this planet is depicted in my work.
Skies are often dominant in my work, as they set the mood for the scene. My motivation is to capture the nurturing and replenishing energy of nature that 1 experience, as well as the fragility and vulnerability of all on our planet in order to be able to convey it to others. Speaking with the rich pictorial language of the natural world, I attempt through my work to capture my subject’s essence, their spirit, and the beauty of simplicity, silence and solitude through vibrant colours, contrasts and light. The focal point is often a singular object, to illustrate the beauty of solitude as well as our fragility and vulnerability to natural forces completely outside of our control. I attempt to reduce the scene to its essence and convey it’s spirit, beauty in simplicity and reenergizing forces, but also am very aware of and have absolute respect for the potential destructive forces of nature.
